After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Management at McGill University in 2005, Shatha worked at the McGill Photonic Systems Group to develop a broadband source for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Shatha Masters of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University in 2007. In collaboration with Dr. Ted Schwartz, a neurosurgeon at Weill Medical College, Shatha worked to develop a method to control cortical epilepsy. Using a femtosecond laser, we intend to produce noninvasive cuts in the cortex that stop the horizontal spread of epileptic seizures while preserving vertical cortical function.
