Akachukwu currently works under the mentorship of Professor Nozomi Nishimura and Laurie Bizimana on optimizing chemiluminescence probing of the enteric nervous system. Her research focuses on creating a non-invasive, detailed technology to identify, stimulate, and label individual neurons in the enteric nervous system. In addition to being an undergraduate research assistant, Akachukwu is also a resident advisor, co-President of Scholars in Our Society and Africa, and Patient-Care Advocacy Team volunteer at Cayuga Medical Center. She is very interested in the intersectionality between public health and neuroscience and after graduation she hopes to tie these interests together through an MD/ MPH program.
