         Dr. Schaffer

Laura Berkowitz is a postdoctoral associate in the Biomedical Engineering department at Cornell University. She earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from California State University, Sacramento, and a PhD in Psychology (Statistics minor) from the University of New Mexico. During her doctoral studies, under the guidance of Dr. Benjamin Clark, she specialized in electrophysiological and behavioral neuroscience methods, and used these techniques to examine the attractor dynamics of postsubicular pyramidal and interneurons in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease. Her current research concentrates on identifying mechanisms of memory impairment linked to reduced blood flow. Employing a range of behavioral, pharmacological, electrophysiological, and optogenetic techniques, she aims to uncover how blood flow deficits contribute to physiological changes affecting memory encoding and consolidation.
