My goal is to study how the inflammatory response following stroke causes irreversible damage to the brain cells and what triggers rewiring neuronal network during recovery. Accumulation of small strokes in the brain causes cognitive defects and dementia in aging patients. However, the area of study has been hampered due to lack of chronic animal models of microstroke. Using intravital multiphoton imaging, I will study the dynamics of neurons and glial cells in the brain following small strokes. Hopefully this research can be used to better understand the mechanisms underlying cognitive impairments and vascular dementia caused by stroke. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Hanyang University and Master’s Degree in Neuroscience from Seoul National University. Currently, I am working towards a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell.
